She was the eldest of nine children. She suffered a serious childhood illness. She overcame it and helped her parents to raise her younger siblings.
During the Great Depression, Mamie had to quit high school to help her family. In hard times then and even recently, she proved to be resilient, loyal, and loving to her family and all who knew her.
On December 8, 1941, Mamie Clark married Edgar Love. Edgar gave her the nickname “Clark”. They remained faithful to each other for over 57 years until his death on July 2, 1999.
Mamie and Edgar had four children. Mamie was a stay-at-home mom until her last child was in school full-time. When she worked outside of the home, she still had the same strong work ethic as a homemaker and employee. Even though she kept a busy schedule, she never was one to be satisfied without completing her education. In 1985, Mamie graduated High School. She retired from the Tenna Corporation in Warrenville Heights, Ohio. After her retirement, she became a founding member and treasurer of a club of five lifelong friends of older women. Mamie was also a devoted member of the Providence Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio.
Many will remember Mamie for her impeccable taste in clothing, no matter the occasion. Others will remember how much she enjoyed cooking and baking, and how much her family and friends enjoyed eating her food. She was famous for her dinner rolls. Some may remember her creativity that included her love for arts and crafts, gardening, and interior decorating. Mamie enjoyed making figurines and other artwork for family and friends, and she was active well into her nineties.
