Bessie Harris passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 29, 2022 at St. Augustine Health Campus. She was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on November 23, 1922 to Nelson Howard and Julia Howard (Works), who preceded her in death.
Bessie graduated in 1930 from Washington Public High School. She later married Henry Lee Westley. She gave birth to six children: James(Connie); Motley(Helen); Frank(Renita); and Curtis. Two children preceded her in death Edward aka "Roy"(Ceola); and Marzell aka "sister".
Bessie lived in Alabama for 40 happy years and was raised on a farm next to her parents' land. There, they worked the land and had hired others to help with the farming. While living with her parents, she obtained skills such as sewing, cannery, cooking and many other domestic abilities as a single parent.
When Bessie moved the family to Cleveland in 1962, she lived with the Johnson Family(sister), who helped support her and her kids. She contributed to the family household by doing domestic work. And also worked at a store as a sales representative until retirement in 1985. Bessie later got married to Joseph Harris(deceased).
Bessie was a warm, loving, considerate person towards others and very hospitable. She loved cooking, working in her garden, Blues music, vegetables and Kentucky Fried Chicken, her two dogs and birds and all her many grandchildren and great-grands.
She is survived in death by her four children: James(Connie); Motley(Helen); Frank(Renita); Curtis and one daughter in law Ceola. Four nieces: Brenda(Eddie); Teddy(Carl); Annette Sellers and Elaine Deeds. grandchildren, Consuelo, Misty, Mercedes, Sandra, Samuel, Belinda, Jacqueline, Crystal, James Jr., Calvin, Carlene, Nova, Demetrius and Deontae.; Many great-grands, cousins, other family members, neighbors and friends.
